How these options were chosen

The practical choice here is a compatible mount and a complete budget, not an invented sound-quality winner. This comparison uses manufacturer documentation, not a hands-on performance test. Current prices and availability are not verified.

USB microphone to OBS
  1. Microphone on a suitable stand or arm
  2. Compatible USB data cable and computer port
  3. Microphone selected as an audio source in OBS

Count the microphone, mounting, required cables or adapters, shipping and tax. Mark an accessory as included only after checking the exact listing.

Using AM8 or K688 through XLR?

  1. Microphone and XLR cable
  2. Compatible audio interface connected to the computer
  3. Interface selected as an audio source in OBS

Add the interface and its required connections to the total. Check monitoring on the interface; USB microphone controls do not carry over to XLR.

Direct monitoring lets you hear your voice through the hardware. Wave Neo plays computer audio through its headphone output; it does not provide direct voice monitoring. The original MV6, AM8 and K688 offer direct voice monitoring in USB mode.

01

Start with the stand or arm you will actually use

Check the selected AM8 kit for its stand or arm contents. The base K688 includes a shock mount, not a complete desktop stand. If you own a suitable arm, confirm its mounting thread, weight range and desk fit before marking the mount cost as zero.

A microphone on an unsuitable mount can leave you too far from the capsule. Decide where it will sit during a real stream before comparing the product-only prices.

02

USB and XLR do not keep the same controls

In USB mode, these microphones provide direct headphone monitoring and model-specific controls. In XLR mode, plan gain and monitoring through your chosen interface. Do not assume the USB controls, RGB or headphone output work through an XLR cable.

If USB meets today's needs, an XLR socket can remain an option for later. You do not need to purchase the interface just because the microphone supports it.

Enter microphone, mount, cables, interface if needed, delivery and tax into the comparison tool. Keep a required unknown cost unresolved until you check it. Compare exact K688 and AM8 listings, not a similarly named family member or an accessory-only bundle.
