  1. Check the OBS guide for your exact operating system and OBS version. This tool does not provide native app-capture instructions for this setup.

Do not capture the same app through Desktop Audio and an app source at the same time. Source capture, headphone monitoring and track assignment are separate settings.

Sources to include

Check the sources, then the outputs.

Choose your OS and OBS version, then check that your sounds reach OBS separately. You will get a track matrix and a listening checklist.

Two settings must agree.

  1. Capture the microphone, game, voice chat and music as separate OBS sources using methods supported by your operating system. A combined desktop-audio feed cannot be split back into its parts by assigning tracks. Avoid capturing the same sound twice.
  2. In Advanced Audio Properties, assign each source to the tracks in your matrix. Track 1 keeps the complete live mix.
  3. In Output settings, select track 1 for streaming. For Twitch's separate VOD feature, enable its VOD track and choose track 2. Other platforms' archived streams are not configured by this Twitch setting.
  4. Select the listed recording tracks in Output settings. Use a format and editor that support multiple audio tracks. A standard video player usually plays just one track at a time.
  5. Record a short private sample. Listen to the mixed track and each isolated track in your editor before going live. Check for missing speech, duplicated sound and sync.

Removing music from a VOD does not grant permission to play it live, in clips or in recordings. Use audio you have the rights to use.
