The mic that helps is the one that makes your voice clearer in your room. An expensive mic placed far from your mouth picks up more fan noise, echo and keyboard than a cheap one used close with the gain turned down.
So start with distance. Record the same sentence and the same typing before and after each change, and let the recordings decide whether you need new hardware.
Compare the full kit, not just the microphone price.

After you connect the gear
Connect the new mic, select it as an OBS audio source and repeat the same recording. Check that your voice is present only once in the recording.

Move your current mic closer to your mouth, as close as its manual recommends, and point it at your mouth from slightly to one side. Turn the gain down until your voice is as loud as before. Turn off noise filters for the test. Then record 30 seconds in OBS: speech, silence and normal typing.
- Leave the fan and the room as they are on a real stream.
- Listen on headphones and on a phone speaker.
- Judge how easy the words are to follow, not how the mic looks.
If moving the mic closer fixes the recording, you do not need a new one yet.
Pick the type of mic before the model
For an untreated room, a dynamic USB mic used close to your mouth is a sensible type to start with: working close favours your voice over the room. USB also means you do not need an audio interface.
- Check the pickup pattern and where the maker says to speak into it.
- Decide whether you need a headphone socket on the mic.
- Measure whether your desk or boom arm can hold it close enough.
- Check your operating system, the connector and the cable in the box.
Noise removal is not a substitute for placement
A noise filter can reduce a steady fan. Pushed hard, it can also clip the ends of words and make your voice pump. Add it after you have fixed distance and gain, and expect it to reduce noise, not remove it.
Test the new mic the same way
Record the new mic at the same voice level, distance and room noise as your first recording. Keep it only if your words are clearly easier to follow and it has not made mounting or monitoring harder.
