Prove the failure in the finished output first.

Reproduce the failure in a private platform test, stop output, then save the completed OBS log. Compare its network-dropped-frame percentage with the platform health view and the lowest repeatable upload result near your normal stream time.

What it may mean

The route to the ingest server may be unstable, upload may fluctuate under load, Wi-Fi may introduce loss, or network software, drivers, a VPN, router or ISP path may interfere with OBS traffic.

What it does not prove

A short test to a nearby browser endpoint does not test the same server, route, duration or sustained packet flow as the broadcast.

One conservative free test

Keep the same scene and encoder. Use wired Ethernet if available, disable only an active VPN or vendor network-boost feature for the test, and try the platform's supported alternate ingest path before changing unrelated video settings.

Record every network setting you change. Re-enable security software and restore the original OBS network options immediately when the controlled test does not improve the dropped-frame counter.

Common questions

01Why can OBS drop frames when my upload speed is high?+

Dropped frames measure whether the sustained route to the ingest server kept up. A browser speed test can use a different endpoint and hide jitter, loss, routing or short-lived upload dips.

02Is dynamic bitrate a complete fix?+

No. OBS describes it as a way to reduce dropped frames by lowering bitrate during congestion; it does not remove the underlying network problem.

Did the relevant counters improve?

For dropped frames, encoding lag or rendering lag, compare a completed log from before and after your change. For audio and black-screen problems, inspect the recording itself; counters cannot establish picture or sound quality.
