Prove the failure in the finished output first.
Make a short local recording using the exact scene and output-track configuration. Speak continuously, stop the recording, and listen to the finished file before changing filters or buying hardware.
What it may mean
The microphone may be missing from the encoded track, routed to a track the output does not use, muted downstream, or replaced by a different intended source.
What it does not prove
A moving meter proves source activity inside OBS. It does not prove that the selected final output track contains the microphone.
Match the evidence before changing settings
The player may be opening a different track, or track 1 may not contain every source.

Common questions
01Why does the OBS mic meter move when the recording has no voice?+
The meter shows that audio reached an OBS source. Track assignment, output selection, monitoring and playback can still prevent that source from reaching the final file or stream.
02Should I buy a new microphone?+
Not before a controlled recording proves that the current microphone itself is the failure. Missing final audio is often a routing or track-selection problem.
Did the relevant counters improve?
For dropped frames, encoding lag or rendering lag, compare a completed log from before and after your change. For audio and black-screen problems, inspect the recording itself; counters cannot establish picture or sound quality.
